Dr Mark Boccola
Dr Mark Boccola is a specialty trained Bariatric and Upper GI surgeon. He grew up in Newcastle, NSW and attended the University of Newcastle Medical School graduating in 2006. He then trained in general surgery in Victoria obtaining his Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2015. He completed two years of post-fellowship training in gastro-oesophageal cancer resection and hiatal hernia repair through the ANZ Gastro-Oesophageal Surgical Association (ANZGOSA) at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney and John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. During this time he performed acute general and trauma surgery, developed advanced laparoscopic skills and was accredited by the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) to perform therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy. He spent additional post-fellowship time at an ANZ Metabolic & Obesity Surgery Society (ANZMOSS) recognized post at Box Hill Hospital, Victoria working with Mr Harry Frydenberg past president of the International Federation for the Surgery Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO). Dr Boccola is a current member of General Surgeons Australia (GSA) and maintains his scope of general surgical practice. He has published journal articles on a wide range of surgical topics including oncological resection, reconstruction and anastomotic leak. Recently he has presented his new findings for the pathophysiology of GORD in the lung transplant recipient to the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in Houston, Texas.![](https://optionsforyou.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/9809.png)
Dr Ertugrul Durmush
Dr Durmush has performed more than 2250 sleeve gastrectomies with a complication rate of less than 0.5%, a rate comparable with the world’s best bariatric surgeons. Dr Durmush’s methodologies are recognised internationally, with his expertise in the field earning him invitation to address several European bariatric surgery meetings. Dr Durmush also performs mini gastric bypass, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and metabolic surgeries such as loop bipartition bypass and transit bipartition bypass especially designed for diabetic patients. The Life Weight Loss Centre was opened in 2007 by Dr Durmush to establish a centre of excellence for treatment of obesity in Australia. Dr Carolyn Jameson is a surgeon specialising in Laparoscopic Bariatric / Obesity / Metabolic and Abdominal surgery. Dr John Ozmen
Dr John Ozmen is a consultant general surgeon with accredited sub-specialty training in upper GI and bariatric surgery. He has a wide experience in open and laparoscopic abdominal surgery especially in the fields of upper GI, reflux, biliary, and pancreatic cancer surgery. His experience also covers diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. His practice includes other general surgical procedures- skin cancer, ingrown toe nails, vasectomy, pilonidal sinus surgery, gallbladder surgery, laparoscopic hernia repair, bariatric and metabolic surgery. He completed medical training at UNSW in 2001 and was awarded MBBS BSc(Med) Hons. Surgical training was completed in Sydney with the award of FRACS General Surgery in 2011. He then completed a 2 year college accredited upper GI and bariatric fellowship at St Vincent s and St George Hospitals in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He was awarded certificate of post-fellowship training by ANZGOSA in 2014. Bariatric and metabolic surgical training was completed at 2 IFSO bariatric surgery centres of excellence. The first at St George Private Hospital for 18 months and second at AZ Sint-Jan Hospital in Bruges Belgium for 6 months under Dr Bruno Dillemans, a world expert in bariatric surgery. Prof Henry Pleass
Professor Henry Pleass graduated in Medicine and completed an MD in Xenotransplantation from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. Professor Pleass trained in General and Transplantation Surgery in North East England, Edinburgh and Sydney. Professor Pleass is currently the Professor in Surgery at the Westmead Clinical School, University of Sydney.
